The Story.

The procedure has many names and sometimes called Multitrepannic Collagen Actuation, Skin Needling, or Cutaneous Induction Theraphy. It is an alternative to facelift or laser resurfacing.

In 1992, I came across this procedure while working on my research to develop a skin care line
that would address the need of my growing clientele.  This procedure at that time was in its infancy and little
was written about it. In that research, I found out that only a few doctors were documenting their findings.
One of the first pioneers of this procedure was a Swissfrench Dermatologist, Dr. Philippe Simonin, who published his results in the 1994 Baran's Cosmetic Dermatology.  He named this procedure ERP or Electroridopuncture.
Dr. Simonin divided his patients into 2 groups; skin ageing and old scars.  There was a 40% significant improvement in the aging skin, 60% improvement in old scars with 5-6 treatments.  Best results were obtained
for depressed and fibrous scars.

Another pioneer was Dr. Andre Camirand, a Canadian Plastic Surgeon.  Dr. Camirand used to camouflage the scars of his facelift patients using a tattoo instrument.  While doing follow-ups on those patients, he found that the hypertropic scars flattened with outstanding result and the skin that was needled was much better than the area that was not  treated.
He reported his findings in JACPS in 1992.

In 1994, another name came up when my research on what active ingredients I would use for my skin care line.
Dr. Des Fernandes of South Africa had been working on actives Vitamin A and Vitamin C, the two main ingredients in my I"ll Never Tell Serum. As I was reading his research, I found out that he too has been needling since 1993.
Again, results of his work with needling were documented.  Amazed by these findings, I continued to stay informed on the procedure and researched on who can I tap for training.

The training.

While my research on this procedure continued, I was also in search for the best person to
tap for hands-on training and to find the best machine to do the job right. To do this procedure, one must have an excellent skin care experience, must know the proper protocol to follow and must be knowledgeable in every aspect of skin care.  This is not the work of a novice.

Enter Ms. Susan Church.  When I met Susan, she was shocked to know that I was already reading her bio, her work as the Director of Education, Clinical Director of Research and Development for the SCPME, and the first who introduced Scar Relaxation at the Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals (SPCP) conference in 1991 after she discovered the method while working on several burn survivors with Dr. Grossman.  I have followed Susan's work on Skin Needling since 1994 and is honored to be trained by her personally.

The Procedure.

Collagen Stimulation is a very specific well designed application to assist issues in the skin.  I call it Collagen Stimulation because that is really what it is.  The procedure's main thrust is to stimulate collagen formation in the skin to help in skin tightening, scar relaxation, acne scarring or hypertrophic scarring, reduce the formation of wrinkles, repigmentation of skin or even reduce hyperpigmentary spots.  The procedure is to primarily encourage the body to respond to a perceive trauma by stimulating the body's own healing mechanism; in this instance,
the fibroblast, a protein systhesis factory, is stimulated to produce collagen and elastin, collagen being the most abundant body protein.  There are 12 types of collagen in the body (Advanced Professional Skin Care, Medical Edition, Dr. P. Pugliese) and all of those have such a significant role in the structure of the skin and the maintenance of skin health.
